What a great reunion!  I thank everyone who worked so hard during the last 2 years to make it all happen.  I had a wonderful time.  I really appreciate all who came - I totally enjoyed seeing and talking with everyone. Let's do it again - see you at the 75th!

What is so amazing was the love, acceptance, and reminiscence going on at OUR reunion.  Jim and Bobbi, Jane and Marilyn, Larry, Bruce, Rusty, Carolyn, Gary, Ken and countless others made this weekend PERFECT.   It couldn't have been better.  Our close circle of friends expanded to include many more.  We may not have noted each other much in high school, but we had another chance to share again.  What are the ties that bind?  270 people in a four year situation to achieve something, or tolerate something, or dread something.  Who do we miss?  Some couldn't come.  Some have died.  What teachers or coaches do we miss? But we who were there were blessed, again.

Special thanks to the Carraways (Jim and Bobbi), who opened their beautiful home to us on Friday night and paid for all the refreshments.  A magnificent example of generosity and hospitality.  All of the reunion team did a wonderful job.

Although I couldn't make it to the reunion it was great fun seeing all the photos - a little frustrating when I couldn't place a name with a face.  Fun to see Bobbi, Bonnie, Rusty, Linda (Loeb), Freya and others.  I very much enjoyed talking by phone with Sandi and had some fun email contact with Freya, Bruce and Linda.  So many lovely families and interesting careers!  Kudos to all who made it happen.

Best to all,

Lauren Golden (Patty Karr)

Many, many thanks to all of you who worked so hard to make our reunion a wonderful event.  Brian B.'s comments echo my feelings about reconnecting with some and finding out about others whom I didn't particularly know in high school.

I was very well impressed by the school WFB High School is today.  Our tour with the principal was a real highlight. The school is even more exceptional than when we graduated.  I think I'd like to try it again....

Actually, this is a question and not a response. Someone sent me the movie documentary FED UP.  I watched it and had mixed feelings about their reasons for obesity.  I was curious as to whether anybody remembers whether we had a school lunch program.  I don't recall ever eating lunch at school.  My mom always packed my lunch and we often walked to the corner store on Henry Clay for whatever else we wanted.  The movie shows school cafeterias serving fast food from various franchises.  I thought this was a poor idea ostensibly fostered in response to cuts in school lunch programs. I am just guessing but didn't schools back in the day make their own hot lunches from scratch and only served one meal, not choices?

I recall eating lunch in the caffeteria at Cumberland school, and each day they would only serve one main choice with vegtebles, etc. In high school I would brown bag it or go home for lunch, We did get served free mik every morning at Cumberland elementary school. I also recall lining up at the nurses office when it was time for annual shots, and it was required by everyone..

I remember the iodine pills we had to take - at Cmberland - not WFB!

Those iodine pills were pretty tasty, as I recall. I'd have liked to get hold of a couple bottles of them but the teacher always hid them after doling them out.

Those were the best chocolate-flavored iodine tablets, and I missed them when they stopped handing them out, when Morton introduced iodized-salt.

Who can recall during the "Cold War" era, having to perform "Air Raid Drills" and walking down into the basement hallways? There was even an "Air Raid Siren" that sounded weekly from the WFB Police station. And there was the occasional "Fire Drill" when everone had to walk outside.

Thanks Dave, John and Michael,

I went to Richards Grade school and I think they had a cafeteria too.  Unfortunately, my memory is pretty dim on that.  I do recall getting served milk in kindergarten at our nap time.  I think wemay have had a cafeteria at WFB but I don't remember eating there.  I always brought a packed lunch.

I agree that those Iodine tablets were tasty.  Much better than getting tested for tuberculosis.

According to the FED UP movie, school lunch programs are out of control with fast food franchises offering burgers, french fries, pizza, soft drinks and other questionably nutritious products.  I think you're right about only offering one choice meal in grade school.

I remember that boys had to take Home Economics in eighth grade.  We went to Henry Clay school for that.  Unfortunately, I got kicked out for goofing off and have little recollection of what they taught.  I think it was wearing an apron and making cookies?

I agree the Iodine pills were tasty.  My 3rd grade teacher at Cumberland (name long forgotten) used to leave them on her desk, and when I was alone in the room I would sneak some!  Probably why I have hypothyroidism!  Those tasty treats were suspose to protect our thyroid from radiation fallout as a result of an Atomic Bomb attack!  Those were the days of 'fallout shelters' in people's backyards!
